Overview
Business Information Systems provides an opportunity for you to develop an understanding of the role of information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) in organisations. You will explore the relationship between IS systems and business performance whilst assessing the key types of information technology used in business today. Subsequently, as part of assessment activity, you will have exposure to the various ways information systems can be used in accounting, finance, marketing, management and human resources to solve everyday business problems.

Learning Outcomes
- Discuss the role and importance of information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) in contemporary organisations.
- Explain how IT and IS support business performance, efficiency, and strategic decision-making.
- Analyse the key types of information technologies used in business and evaluate their associated benefits.
- Assess the advantages and limitations of different IT and IS solutions in the context of improving organisational processes and operations.
- Explain how major business functions such as accounting, finance, marketing, management, and human resources use information systems to address routine operational issues and support managerial decision-making, as covered in the weekly lecture topics.
Assessment
AIIHE uses a variety of assessment tools to guide and assess each student’s achievement of their learning outcomes. In this subject there will be in–class activities intended to support you to engage in and reflect on your learning journey and understanding of the subject. You will also undertake assessment tasks related to your skills development, your effective engagement in group work and delivery of collaborative outcomes, including a written report and an oral presentation.
Summary of Assessment
- Students must attempt all assessment tasks, and at least a mark of 50% in total, to pass this subject.
- Assessment in this subject is consistent with and informed by the AIIHE Assessment Policy and Procedure.
