Overview
Business Communication (BUS101) will enable you to develop an understanding of the role of communication in business and professional environments and to identify the most effective methods for creating, sending, and receiving messages.
Studying this subject provides you with the basic principles of effective communication skills and practices relevant to verbal and non-verbal modes of communication designed for a variety of audiences in business contexts. It includes an introduction to working and communicating in teams. You will be introduced to library research and critical thinking skills, as well as introducing you to the appreciation of ethical practice through analysing complex information. It also provides you with a balanced approach focusing on communication theories as well as their practical implications.Associated Degrees

Learning Outcomes
- Apply industry-standard software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to structure and deliver professional communications in written, oral, or graphical formats.
- Search, review, analyse, interpret, and reference literature for writing reports.
- Demonstrate an understanding of cultural sensitivity in communication across cultures.
- Working effectively in a team to plan and manage a program of work; express opinions and negotiate outcomes.
- Analyse and discuss ethical and leadership challenges in business.
Assessment
AIIHE uses a variety of assessment tools to guide and assess each student’s achievement of their learning outcomes. In this subject there will be in–class activities intended to support you to engage in and reflect on your learning journey and understanding of the subject. You will also undertake assessment tasks related to your skills development, your effective engagement in group work and delivery of collaborative outcomes, including a written report and an oral presentation.
Summary of Assessment
- Students must attempt all assessment tasks, and at least a mark of 50% in total, to pass this subject.
- Assessment in this subject is consistent with and informed by the AIIHE Assessment Policy and Procedure.
